The basics

What every endorsing body asks for

Every Global Talent endorsement application includes a CV, and every endorsing body asks for it to be typed. What changes is the page limit and what the CV has to prove. Your CV sits alongside your letters and evidence: it is not one of the evidence documents.

Tech Nation

Digital technology: 3 sides of A4

For Tech Nation your CV should include your career and any relevant publication history. It must be typed and be up to 3 sides of A4 paper. Your CV and letters of recommendation do not count toward the 10 pieces of evidence.

Checklist: Tech Nation3 items
  • Put the usernames for your professional public profiles, such as LinkedIn and GitHub, in your CV so Tech Nation finds the right profiles.
  • Tech Nation says the use of templates within your application is not acceptable.
  • Tech Nation also says the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT within your application is not acceptable. Write the CV yourself.

Peer review

Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering and British Academy: 3 single sides of A4

On the peer review route your CV must outline your career and any publication history, be typed and be up to 3 single sides of A4 paper.

Review tracker: Peer review3 items
  • For your most significant publications, give the full bibliographic reference, the name of the publisher and where each one can be obtained, including a URL if available.
  • For patents, give the full identifying reference and the countries in which they are registered and valid.
  • Each letter writer also sends their own CV, or other proof of their credentials, with their letter.

Arts Council England

Arts and culture: no page limit, but the CV can decide the application

Arts Council England uses your CV to judge what stage of your career you are at. It sets no size limit, but asks you to condense the document as much as possible. If a CV is not provided, or does not satisfy it that you are at an appropriate stage of a professional career, the application will be unsuccessful even if your letters and evidence meet the criteria.

Checklist: Arts Council England4 items
  • Show your full professional career and education, with specific dates, including the year, for each engagement.
  • Exceptional Talent: Arts Council England expects a substantial professional track record from at least the last 5 years. Exceptional Promise: at least the last 3 years.
  • A link or screenshot of an online CV, bio or LinkedIn profile is not acceptable.
  • Fashion and design CVs need a link to your website showing your work. Film and television CVs should include one where possible.

CV or evidence

What goes in the CV and what goes in the evidence

The CV lists your career and outputs. Proof of a talk, an award, press coverage or a product launch belongs in your evidence documents, where each piece is checked against a criterion. Keep the two consistent: every date and role in your evidence should match your CV.

Your CV and your personal statement

Tech Nation and the peer review route also ask for a personal statement. The CV gives the dates and roles; the statement explains why your work meets the criteria. Write the CV first, so the statement can point to it.
